Depending on what color your natural color is and if you use permanent color, yes you can dye your hair and get back to your natural color. The time and process all depends upon all of the questions above. If you use a permanent color and your hair is light you Willl have a difficult time going back to your natural color as it will have to grow out and you wil have to keep coloring or bleach it to get ti back. If you use a semi- permanent color it will be a much easier process for you to get back to your natural color. If your hair is dark, then using a dark, permanent color will not matter because you can transition relatively easily with either lighter colors or keeping up with cuts and going a bit lighter with your colors. good luck.

a word of warning i used a semi permanent dye but it has stayed in my hair (i dyed it around christmas time) - obviously it has faded a lot but you can still just see the line, i was lucky it was relatively close to my colour so doesn't show too much, but be careful!
