I have natural hair and some girls with perms scolded me about it saying omg girl your hair is nappy you need a perm. I got over it. It doesn't bother me at all now.

I LOVE natural hair. It is so different and unique. I hate that so many sistas perm claiming that it is for this and that when they know the real reason is just a complex. However if black girls wanna perm fine. Ima keep growing my hair out until i get a nice big sexy fro, and ima rock it to school proudly.
Just keep your head up and if they keep scolding you then educate them. tell them to that you are happy to be nappy and at least you arent trying to be something that you arent. maybe you need to show them this

i feel the same way my hair is REALLY curl and nappy when i straighten my hair my friends say it looks better straight so i kinda think do they not lyk my curly hair but i just deal wit it.

In the USA, natural "black" hair is seen as unattractive, particularly in the African American community. Then again, many white women also feel pressure to straighten their hair. I applaud all women who fight the pressure to conform to unnatural, unrealistic standards of beauty.

Just because some black girls perm there hair that do not mean every black girl need to do the same. Once you put all them chemicals in your hair it damage it. If you feel comfortable with your hair the way it is then leave along and let them get over it.
Sometimes when you put a perm in your hair it cause your hair to break and become damage if you do not take care of your hair because that is what happen to me.

I'm mixed and just recently stopped getting my hair permed.. it looks alot healtheier now and so pretty...and when you want it straight its okay to straighten every once in a while.. i'ts cool... yea some ppl say that to me too about the perm thing but having natural hair makes it grow longer

You have every right to wear your hair without chemicals. My problem is w/my 6yr old daughter. She inherited the long hair length from my husbands side but the thick coarseness from my side. Even an old fashion "put it on the stove" pressing comb only keeps it straight for a day. My mom says I have to wait until she is about 8 to perm it. I'm counting the days!

im indian and i have black friends that go to my school. 1 girl name shelly she has a natural lomg afro and every guy says she pretty and girls say shes pretty they always say oh but she needs a perm or get a hotcomb in her hair. they always bug her about her hair saying oh u know shes pretty but her hair is eww. she even told me her own grandmother say she need to do something with her hair and she also told me her family members tell her to marry a guy with my type of indian hair. i was so offended by this is told her to marry a guy who u love not because of hair. as a indian girl i can relate to u black women about hair because when it comes to hair pressure it doesnt only happen in the black community it happens in the indian community i used to have long hair to my butt when the hairdresser cut it it was up to my neck my hair is no longer silky all my indian friends bug me about getting long indian hair and telling me only indian women have strong hair unlike other girls. they always think that their hair is the best in the world. even people who are not indian always expect me as a indian woman to have hair that grow fast and silky but honestly my hair grows just like anyone else. at first i was ashame of my hair now im not and im glad u got over it sweetie. because hair is hair as long as u take care of it get regular trims and treatments u are good. dont worry about stupid ignorant people. dont change for stupid ppl love ur self and ur hair

natural hair is absolutely beautiful, you'll probably assume that by my icon i'm white, and that would be correct, but i'm also a multi ethnic hair-stylist. as long as you keep your hair moisturized it will be just fine, since african american well curlly hair in general is scientifically proven to be the dryest of all hair types.

It's crazy because I just answered a question like yours. A girl asked if she should get a afro and will guys think its cute. Everyone scolded her and said afro's are gross and its 2007. I don't understand why people are scared to be themselves? Most of us are born w/ curly hair accept it. I love my hair it doesn't make me as a person, just another beautiful thing about being Black. Whatever makes you happy you should rock it. Like I told her if you look good, no one can hate.

whats the big deal. Some people like their hair permed and others like it natural. Its all beautiful. Personally im sick and tired of the "permed/natural hair is better" debate. I think its stupid that black women divide themselves over hair. We should embrace the differences and move on. As a double minority we should find something else to focus on like equality in the workplace or holding a political office .

well if you turn comb it...and put something in your hair to define the girls...you're going to get people calling it nappy... b/c it'll probably look frizzy...when you'r hair is wet...the curls are untouched...get it to look like that...b/c when you comb it it will look like a big puff

when you wear a natural, it should be cut correctly and picked out. these days most brothers and sisters don't know how to wear a natural.
thats why people say it looks nappy. back in the day, you had your hair braided for a few days, then you picked it out to wear the fro. also you spray oil sheen on it after you picked it.
its a pretty hairstyle if worn correctly.
