I have been thinking of going "natural" which in my case is probably gray (ouch) but the how of it has me scared. Don't want to shave it all off and don't want to go months with muli coloured hair.

I would have to say that the best way is to do semi permanent hair color until the permanent is either grown out or cut off,that way your not walking around with colored and grey roots.When the permanet hair color is grown out then the semi(which fades in about 4-6 weeks)will also fade away and you can stop altogether.Or maybe you would want to keep doing it to blend the greys in.REmember semi hair color can only depoist not left the natural hair,so you can only go darker not lighter.
