Does anyone know a good place to get natural hair dye, preferably with little or no chemicals in it?

I want to dye my hair but I don't like all the chemicals in most hair dyes. I would like to try something more natural. ould also prefer more natural colors, no bubble gum pink please.

Check at your local health food store. They carry natural products and might have exactly what you are looking for.

Too bad you didn't state a colour. There are home-made products you can use, like lemon for lighter hair, strong tea for darker, and so on.

Best of luck!

Whole Foods!

You can get "natural" hair color in health food stores, BUT as a precaution, "natural" dyes are henna or metallic dyes and are usually in the red tones, they don't always look natural, they tend to fade fast and look flat in color and not shiny and healthy like natural hair tends to look. You are better off with a salon product rather than an over the counter product because the ammonia and peroxide levels are MUCH lower and safer to use in professional products. Not to mention you don't have the worry of doing it yourself and getting it wrong.

Another downfall to "natural" dyes is if you don't like the color or if its a disaster, coloring over it with a "regular" or even a salon color will create a chemical reaction with the metallic salts and can cause even more damage!!

Good luck I hope this helps!!

Henna is a all natural hair dye with no chemicals its a all round natural one

If you're looking to go as natural as possible and totally want to avoid the chemicals altogether, you might want to consider henna. Henna hair color is derived from plants and is ammonia and peroxide free. It doesn't smell the greatest, but it's definitely the most gentle because it's 100% plant based. Light Mountain is a good brand. You can find it on www.goddess-within.com. Only problem with henna is that your hair can sometimes get a greenish or reddish tint that will show up even worse in florescent light. And it's usually not strong enough to take you more than a couple of shades away from your natural hair color.

If you're looking to make a drastic change in your hair (going from dark brown or black to blonde or covering a significant amount of gray, for example), you're more than likely going to have to use a permanent hair color, which always contain some form of ammonia and/or peroxide. If you can find it, Clairol Balsam color is a great brand. It's one of the most gentle level 3 permanents out there.

If the thought of committing to a color you might hate is enough to make your skin crawl, you might want to try a rinse, which washes out in usually 12-24 shampoos. Clairol Natural Instincts is, in my opinion, the best on the market because of the nourishing ingredients and the great conditioning treatment it comes with.

Good luck to ya!

'Henna' is the most natural red hair dye you can get. It is actually good for your hair. You buy it from a health food shop.
